Easy Veggies From A to Z!
Artichokes
Artichokes are easy to grow. Plant seedlings in the garden after all the danger of frost has passed, in well-drained soil where they will get full sun. Pick them when they are still green and before the buds have begun to open.
Beets
Beets grow well in home gardens. Plant the seeds two or three weeks before the last expected frost. Thin them when they are about two inches tall, and use the culled leaves in salads.
Carrots
Carrots are best grown in full sun, although they will grow in some shade. Carrot seeds can be sown as soon as the ground can be worked. They do well in small gardens.
Cucumbers
Cucumbers will grow in almost any soil but require full sun. Seeds must be planted well after the danger of a last frost has passed. You need only a few plants to get plenty of the veggies.
Green beans
Green beans are one most prolific vegetables to grow. Plant the seeds after the danger of frost has passed. Bush varieties of beans do not require staking, but pole beans need support.
Lettuce
Lettuce and salad greens are best when planted in early spring or in the fall. Plant lettuces every two weeks for a continuous harvest.
Onions
Onions are usually grown from “sets”, although they can be grown from seeds. Onions grow best in well drained soil with plenty of compost added.
Peas
Peas are a favourite veggies in the garden. Sow the seeds early in the spring as soon as you can work the soil. Peas will be ready to pick about three weeks after they begin to flower.
Peppers
Because peppers need a long growing season, plant young seedlings to give them enough time to mature before frost. Peppers love heat, so plant them out after the soil has warmed up. Pick peppers early and often, this will ensure a bountiful harvest.
Radishes
Radishes are the easiest of all vegetables to grow. They are best planted in early spring or early fall. Radishes sprout quickly and are usually ready to pick in only four to five weeks.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are the most popular vegetable grown in home gardens, and are easy to grow, they just need adequate water and sunlight. Tomato seedlings can be planted out in the garden as soon as the soil warms up.
Zucchini
Zucchini is a delicious and easy to grow summer squash. One or two plants are all you need for a plentiful harvest. Plant zucchini seeds when the soil has completely warmed up to ensure germination. Pick them when they are about six inches long.

Compost Tea
Cut the legs off old pantyhose and fill them with finished compost or well-rotted manure. Tie the legs closed and let them sit in a bucket filled with water for four hours or so. The finished solution should be the colour of weak tea. Water your garden and plant containers with the “tea” for excellent results.
