Why compost?
Using home made compost is a convenient, safe and easy option to enhance the growth of your garden. It is also financially sustainable. It is like having a rebate buying produce. An average family can generate up to 1,000 lbs. kitchen waste per year. That is 100-150 lbs. of compost (natural fertilizer). There is no cost other than the purchase of a compost bin at $25. You can save up to $100 or more, equivalent to what you would spend on chemical fertilizer.
The Garden can process up to 60,000 lbs (1000 lbs. x 60 families) compost materials per year. That will result in a significant reduction in car emissions by cutting trips to the landfill. And more importantly, it reduces the methane gas produced by landfill, which in turn damage the ozone layer.
